I didn't get the assistant manager's job. My boss told me he didn't think I was quite ready for the responsibility and that my interview had been 'disappointing'. I can't say it came as a surprise. I feel I've let my boss down, myself down and Izzy down, which is probably the most gutting thing.
To make matters worse, I didn't tell Izzy straight away. She was so excited about it all that I couldn't bring myself to admit I'd failed. The next day I met her for a sarnie and, nightmare, we ran straight into my boss. I thought she'd immediately say something like, 'When are you going to put Mikey out of his misery?' but she didn't and I thought I'd got away with it.
Then, just as we were winding up the conversation, he told me to tidy the golf section when I got back to the shop. That's when Izzy joked: 'Won't be long before you can get your staff to do that'. It was really embarrassing and she wasn't best pleased when I told her why.
